Part Two: NJ Terrorism Insurance Alert Special
If your business, school or institution receives a bomb threat, NEVER pull the red fire alarm box as this may set a bomb off!
Bomb threats communicated via a written note or email require somewhat of a different reaction than those received through a telephone call.
Written or Printed Bomb Threats
If you receive a bomb threat via a note or letter, handling it should be kept to a bare minimum before submitting it to the authorities.
Emailed Bomb Threats
If you receive an emailed bomb threat, do not delete it. Stay at your position by the computer. Do not allow others to meddle or tamper with the email before the authorities take over.
Aftermath of a Bomb Threat
After alerting security, 9-11 or local police about the threat, follow their directives if evacuation is necessary or not.
Obey any instructions about exiting the building.
- Turn off all cell phones and proceed to evacuate.
- Use stairwells as opposed to the elevator.
- Once out of the building, stay clear of the surrounding area by keeping at least three hundred feet away
- Do not attempt to reenter the building until you are given the all-clear from security personnel
